The main goal of Science of Loss was to make the audience experience a character’s subconsciousness from within. We decided to build a setup that allowed us to project an entire room from within, creating a full 360° mapping experience. The great auditorial dome of the Ghent University functioned as the inside of the mind of a lonely and segregative physicist, who is obsessed by explaining everything in scientific formulas. The story continues with our scientist being confronted by an unfortunate and traumatising memory from his past. Will science be able to give him the emotional closure or explanation he is looking for?
